Zen Meditation

Zen is strongly associated with group practice. Having the opportunity to be with others on the same path and in a place dedicated to this work is tremendously beneficial. This session is dedicated to practice (there is very little time for teaching or guiding beginners). We begin at 7 with meditation and sanzen (private Zen interview), and finish with an informal optional tea finishing at about 9am.

For beginners or newcomers, it is best to come to one of our Sunday meetings first (see below).


Zen Meditation

About the Class

Zen is strongly associated with group practice. Having the opportunity to be with others on the same path and in a place dedicated to this work is tremendously beneficial. This session is our main weekly Zen meditation meeting, and there is time for guidance for beginners and some teaching.

We begin with chanting, then there will be a Dharma talk by Daizan Roshi (or another our other dharma teachers), Zazen with an opportunity for Sanzen (private Zen interview). After 6pm we have an informal optional tea finishing about 7pm. For more information about the session, see the Zenways website (the website for our Zen group).

Paying a regular donation towards the class

You’re very welcome to come a few times to see whether you find our style of practice helpful. There is no charge. However if you decide you want to attend regularly, you can sign up as a Zenways member and commit to sending a monthly donation to help cover the cost of the class – our Zen organisation relies for its survival on your donations.

Daizan

Class Teacher – Daizan Roshi

Daizan is the founder and director of ZenYoga.

Having studied in Zen monasteries over many years, Daizan is a Zen master in the Rinzai tradition. He has been teaching meditation and yoga in London since he returned from Japan in 2007.

His teachings emphasise the transformative power of mindfulness, melting away blocks and resistances so that we can enter life more fully and fearlessly.


Beginners Zen Meditation

Zen is strongly associated with group practice. Having the opportunity to be with others on the same path and in a place dedicated to this work is tremendously beneficial. This session is particularly aimed at beginners to meditation and/or Zen (fine also for more experienced practitioners).

We begin with chanting, then there will be some mindful movement practice or a talk by Mark, then Zazen (sitting meditation) with an opportunity for Sanzen (private Zen interview). For more information about the session, see the Zenways website (the website for our Zen group).

Zenways Zen Newcomers Welcome and Orientation

PLEASE NOTE: THIS SESSION IS ONLINE ONLY

If you’re a newcomer to Zen meditation or to Zenways, then please attend before our main session starting at 18:00.

You will learn from one of our trained meditation teachers about how to practise Zen meditation and what happens in our group practice session. We will show you how to chant, how to bow, how to get individual instruction with Daizan Roshi (sanzen), and how to continue your practice day-to-day.

Feel free to come to this as many times as you want, for instance if you have further questions to ask.

One of the senior members of the Zenways sangha will lead this session. Our group has been going since 2007 and includes a number of trained meditation and mindfulness teachers, and individuals training to be Zen teachers.

Zen Yoga with Noriko

Janea covers this class on 31st March and April 7th, 14th, 28th – No class on 21st – For booking please email Janea at yogabyjanea@gmail.com

Noriko will be back on 5th May.

Drop-ins are welcome, yet Pre-bookings are recommended.

The class is relaxing, nourishing body and mind with your breath. It emphasises combining awareness, correct physical alignment and the energy (ki)system.

Zen Yoga is based on Zen Master Daizan Skinner’s many years of living and studying in Zen temples.  The sequences of movements are adjusted through seasonal energy systems.

All levels are welcome, including complete beginners.

Drop in for £14 or a 5-class pass for £60 (To be used in 10 weeks). The pass applies to both Noriko’s classes on Mondays 6.30-7.30pm and Wednesdays 9.30-10.30am.

About Noriko

Untitled2Noriko grew up in Kyushu, Southern Japan, surrounded by mindful movements and exposed to Zen practice from childhood. She trained in classical Ballet and Buyō, the traditional Japanese dance. Through these practices, she has deeply observed the eastern and western body movements.

Noriko was introduced to Yoga by Billy Doyle, a specialist in Non-Duality.

She has been trained Yoga and Zen meditation by Zen master Julian Daizan Skinner and continues her zen practice at Zenways.
